Mrs. Lawrence

Laurie Lawrence, mom of Megan, passed away Monday morning. Visitation is Thursday and Friday from 3:00 - 8:00pm at the McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile, Farmington Hills. Scripture service is Friday at 7:00pm.  Funeral mass is Saturday at 10:00am at St. Fabian Church, 32200 W. 12 Mile, Farmington Hills. Mrs. Lawrence was a wonderful person and a strong supporter of Mercy High School, and will truly be missed. Let’s keep Megan and her family in our thoughts and prayers. The basketball program  made a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Mrs. Lawrence.

Thank You (updated August 3)

A big thank you to players and parents for your strong committment this summer. We had a lot of participation from players. Thanks to you parents for all your support and driving, and an extra special thank you to those who made our trip to team camp possible and so enjoyable, and to Steve Posa for all his work in the weight room. Thanks, also, to our coaches, especially Coach Uhrin, Coach Lovat and Coach Janer, for giving up so much of their time for our players.

Remember that tryouts for all three teams begin November 10. You must have a physical in order to try out.  Our game schedule for the 2008-09 season (excluding playoffs) is on that link. A reminder that we will be practicing during the Christmas break, though we will take some time off. Our last game before Christmas is December 18. We will have a scrimmage for all three teams during the holiday break and have a game on January 3. We will also host the CYO tournament on December 26, 28, 29 and the Alumnae game on December 27.

Enjoy some quality family time the remainder of the summer, and I hope you have a nice start to the school year in September.

July Basketball (updated July 15)

The July schedule is now available at the practice schedule link.  Please note the time change for the 12th/11th games on July 17. Please get your money for summer basketball games and team camp (for those invited) to your coach right away. For 12th/11th it is $70 for summer games and $150 for team camp; for 10th/9th it is $50 for summer games and $150 for team camp. For those going to team camp, you can combine both fees on the same check. Please make checks payable to Mercy High School.

June Basketball

Thanks to players and parents for participating in June summer basketball. We’ve had a great level of commitment from a number of players in all grades. The July schedule will be up soon. Enjoy your time off and we hope to see you on July 14. By the way, we can still use a couple more volunteers to drive/chaperone at both team camps.

Univ. of Michigan Shootout

Here is information for the Univ. of Michigan Shootout on Saturday, June 21. WE WILL MEET AT CRISLER ARENA IN THE TUNNEL. Crisler Arena is located at 333 E. Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor 48104. Some games will be played at Crisler and some at the Intramural Bldg., which is a short drive from Crisler. We will need drivers to get the players from one site to the other. The 10th/9th grade group will meet at 8:45am, with game times at 10:00, 10:50, 12:30 and 1:20. The 12th/11th grade group will meet at 9:15am, with game times at 10:50, 12:30 and 2:10. We will then go to a tourney format for both teams with games at 3:30, 4:20, 5:10 and 6:00, depending on how we fare. Each team will play 5 or 6 games. There is not enough time between games  to leave and get meals, so you may want to pack a lunch/dinner and some snacks. Water and Gatorade will be provided by U-M. Hope to see you there.

2008 SUMMER BASKETBALL

With the end of school just around the corner, here is some information regarding summer basketball. Our schedule for June can be found on the practice link. Our format will be similar to the past few years in that we will be divided into two groups, with seniors/juniors (and some younger players) in one group (12th/11th) and sophomores/(incoming) freshmen in the other (10th/9th). We’ll go for two weeks in June and will then come back on July 14, and go for three weeks, concluding on July 30. We will go four days a week for most of the summer weeks and we’ll practice/play mostly in the evening hours (from 4:00pm on).

Both groups will play some games during the summer and both groups will go to team camp in Gaylord. The 10th/9th group will go July 20-23, and the 12th/11th group will go July 27-30. Team camp will be by invitation. There will be a fee to play in summer games (to cover entry and referee costs), as well as the team camp. More information will come regarding fees. For team camp, we have reserved some additional hotel rooms, and a couple parents have offered to drive and chaperone, but we could use more help.

Finally, for our incoming freshmen, there are still spots available for our individual camp. Please click on the individual camp link for info.
